RECOGNITION & AWARDS
Donia KAMEL (APE 2021, PSE PhD student) has received the MinE Best Paper Award for her job market paper "Between Arab and White: Syrians and the Naturalization Law". Her paper examines the integration dynamics of Arab populations in the United States following the Dow v. United States (1915) ruling, which determined the eligibility of Syrians for naturalization. Drawing on several decades of census data, she analyzes trends in naming practices, intermarriage, and residential choices. She also plans to expand her research with text analysis of Arab American and American newspapers of the period, along with a study of name Americanization using the Syrian Business Directory.
Paloma PELIGRY (APE 2023) and Grégoire SEMPE (APE 2023, PSE PhD student) received the French Association of Environmental and Resource Economists' Best Young Researcher Paper Award for their article "Climate policies on the housing market" on the macroeconomic and redistributive impacts of several climate policies affecting the French residential housing market.
